A Lecture by Holocaust Refugee Hedy Epstein
Wednesday, March 16 at 7pm
Smith-Buonanno 106
On March 16 Holocaust survivor and political activist Hedy Epstein will address how her experience relates to the current situation in Palestine. Epstein escaped Nazi Germany in 1939 on a children’s transport to England. All but two of her family were killed at Auschwitz concentration camp during the Holocaust. A decade later, she immigrated to the United States, where she took up political activism, dedicating her time to multiple causes including affordable housing, the pro-choice movement, and the antiwar movement. Since 2003 she has been to Palestine five times and her experiences have been the subject of many of her lectures.
Film Screening: "To Shoot an Elephant" & BSJP’s NEW divestment video!
Thursday, March 17 at 7pm
Smith-Buonanno 106
On December 27th 2009 Israel began bombing Gaza as a part of Operation “Cast Lead”. A group of international volunteers for the Free Gaza movement and two Al Jazeera journalists were already on the ground. This allowed them to witness the events of the three weeks of “Cast Lead” firsthand, in spite of the Israeli ban on foreign corespondents and aid workers. Their documentary gives the unique perspective of what the invasion looked like from inside Gaza itself. It is graphic and intense so it will be followed by a screening of BSJPs NEW divestment video and a short discussion on how you can participate in a constructive growing grassroots solidarity movement!

BSJP and RIMC are co-sponsoring a day of action on March 19th, the 8th anniversary of the invasion of Iraq. The main theme of the event is: "Out Now 2011! U.S. Out of the Middle East" with a focus on demanding withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq & Afghanistan; demanding respect for sovereign nations' right to self determination in Palestine, Egypt, Pakistan, Bahrain, Yemen and everywhere, and cutting U.S. aid to aggressor nations.
There will be a rally with poetry, music, and speakers at armory park at 1 pm followed by a march downtown to the homeland security, recruitment center, a community dinner and a discussion run by BSJP on the relationship between the Palestine solidarity movement and the larger anti-war movement. Meet at Faunce Arch at 12:15pm to travel together to Armory Park!
